Most Speed Post items inside India arrive in 1 to 4 working days. Within the same city it is often 1 to 2 days, between big cities 2 to 4, and remote or hilly places can take a week or more. Sundays and public holidays usually don't count, because regular Speed Post isn't delivered on those days.

Typical delivery times

These are typical ranges, not promises. India Post doesn't guarantee a date for regular Speed Post.

RouteUsual time
Same city1 to 2 working days
Between metro cities (Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Kolkata, Bengaluru, Hyderabad)2 to 4 working days
Metro to a smaller town3 to 5 working days
Remote, hilly or island areas5 to 10 working days, sometimes more
24 Speed Post between the six metrosNext day, money back if late
48 Speed Post between the six metrosSecond day, money back if late

If you need a fixed deadline between two of the six metro cities, book 24 or 48 Speed Post. It costs more, is delivered seven days a week, and India Post refunds the charge if it misses the promised time.

What makes Speed Post slower

  • Booking late in the day. An item booked after the day's dispatch leaves with the next one.
  • Distance and transfers. Each sorting hub on the way adds a scan and often a few hours to a day.
  • Weekends and holidays. Regular Speed Post is not delivered on Sundays or public holidays.
  • The address. A missing pincode, house number or landmark sends the item to the wrong office or back for correction. Our address label maker helps you write it right.
  • No one at home. After a failed attempt, the item waits at the delivery post office for a limited time.
  • Festivals and weather. Rakhi, Diwali and floods bring heavy loads and delays.
  • Parcels from abroad. Customs checks add days before the item enters the Speed Post network.

Speed Post kitne din me aata hai (हिंदी में)

How to tell if your item is late

Paste the tracking number in the box at the top of this page. Look at the date of the last scan, not just the status:

  • Gaps of 2 to 4 days between scans are normal on long routes, because items are scanned only at main points.
  • "Out for delivery" means it should reach you today.
  • No new scan for about 7 days is longer than usual. Our result card shows a notice when that happens.

What to do when Speed Post is late

  1. Check the last office in the tracking. If it is your local delivery office, call or visit it with the number.
  2. Read the status meaning in our status guide. "Addressee not available" or "Item on hold" needs action from you.
  3. Call the India Post helpline 1800 266 6868, or raise a complaint on indiapost.gov.in.
  4. Put it in writing if it still hasn't moved. Our complaint letter writer drafts the letter with your details.
