Passport Speed Post tracking

Passports are sent to applicants by India Post Speed Post. Once yours is dispatched, paste its Speed Post number to follow it to your door.

Finding your passport's Speed Post number

After the passport is printed and dispatched, the Speed Post number is usually shown in your application status on the official Passport Seva website, and is often sent by SMS. It looks like any Speed Post number: it starts with E and ends with IN.

File number, ARN and the Speed Post number

Passport Seva gives you two references before dispatch: the ARN when you book the appointment, and the file number on your acknowledgement slip. Use the file number with your date of birth on the official Passport Seva status page. That tells you where the application is. Once the passport is posted, the status adds a 13-character Speed Post number. That number, not the ARN or file number, is what you track on this page.

Don't miss the delivery

  • Passports are delivered to the applicant, or as the rules allow. Keep ID ready.
  • If the status shows "addressee not available" or "door locked", contact the delivery post office quickly. Undelivered passports are returned after a holding period.
  • Never pay anyone who calls or messages about "releasing" your passport. Use only official channels.

Questions

Can I track my passport with the ARN number?

Not on a postal tracker. The ARN and file number work only on the Passport Seva site. After dispatch it shows the Speed Post number, which you can track here.

How long does passport Speed Post take after dispatch?

Usually a few working days within India, depending on distance.

Status says dispatched, but tracking shows nothing.

New bookings can take until the next working day to appear. Check again later.

What if my passport was returned?

Contact the passport office that issued it, quoting your file number and the Speed Post number.
