Document rates from 1 October 2025
India Post revised domestic Speed Post prices on 1 October 2025, the first change since 2012. For documents:
| Weight | Local (same city) | Rest of India |
|---|---|---|
| Up to 50 g | ₹19 | ₹47, any distance |
| 51–250 g | ₹24 | ₹59 up to 200 km, rising to ₹77 above 2,000 km |
| 251–500 g | ₹28 | Depends on distance |
GST is added on top. Beyond local, prices step up by distance band: up to 200 km, 201–500 km, 501–1,000 km, 1,001–2,000 km and above 2,000 km. For heavier items and parcels, India Post's official postage calculator gives the exact price.
Document or parcel?
Documents cost less than parcels. Under India Post's 2026 definition, documents include letters, printed matter and items with no resale value. Bank and insurance items such as passbooks, cheque books and cards count, as do PAN, Aadhaar, voter ID, passport and driving licence cards. Non-commercial packets up to 500 g, such as rakhi envelopes and greeting cards, count too. Everything else is a parcel.
